Zee Ski History
Zski. The name probably was coined in a stupor brought on by Leimgrubers bier, or some schnapps, whisky, a firm bump on the head, or some similar circumsubstance that provokes the german reminiscent slurr of The to Z, but nevertheless the current name for what really is just a fattie with a hard ass waterski cuff on the back is what were sticking with this month.
It all started for us when my friend Ole took a lunch break and ordered 4 beers and a shot. The second ski he forgot. And it is all history from there.
Ole looked so good on the single ski. How could a beer swilling, fun loving, hippie, posing as a responsible property manager manage to ski so well? Was it easy? Yes!! (easier than collecting camel dung in a ski area in Colorado).
I grew up waterskiing and Ole grew up drinking beer and waterskiing. Mix it all up and you come up with a board to slide down the mountain that looks and feels like a waterski, but the frozen cocktail mix your skiing on makes you carve like a pro when your only an amature. Out of necesisity. Stop turning and you die. Or at least crash. My skiing, telemarking, and drinking improved dramatically. I was hooked.
Then they came up with the fattie, the powder ski. This revolutionized single skiing for us. Now you could go anywhere. Deep spring slush, deep powder, breakable crust, anywhere (and many places most couldnt go) any other skier could go with a single ski advantage-....... Only one board. Less complicated, easier to control. All the advantages of skiing, all the advantages of snowboarding in one.
So we graduated from the hose to various forms of cuffs, and several people have tried and continue to test fixed bindings on the single ski, but if you have ever snowboarded, you know that the worst part is when you stop. In the beginning usually this occurs suddenly. You friggin crash. Butt, Knees, elbows and possibly chin. It is not so bad on a single ski, but nevertheless, you know what I mean. I hate to be tied down where I cant move. Or locked in in this case.
